Keeping Drains Flowing: A Full Site Drainage Clean

At CDNW, our jet vac and CCTV crew have been working hard to help one of our valued clients prepare their drainage network for the unpredictable British weather. With storms and heavy rain becoming more frequent, a full site drainage clean is an essential step in preventing potential flooding and ensuring the drainage system can handle the challenge.

Removing the Hidden Hazards

During this particular project, we removed an astonishing 5.4 tons of debris, including silt, rubble, and various other materials that had built up within the drainage network. Over time, this debris had reduced the diameter of some pipes by 25%, significantly impacting the flow of water. While the network wasn’t completely blocked, the reduced pipe size created a hydraulic inadequacy issue, which can cause flooding during heavy storms.

Clearing the debris was critical to restoring the network’s full capacity, helping to ensure that water flows freely even under intense weather conditions.

The Power of Prevention

Once the drains were cleaned, we conducted a CCTV survey of the site and created a detailed GPS drainage map. This map provides the client with a comprehensive view of their drainage network, including the location of all pipes and chambers.

This level of detail is invaluable. For example, if the client experiences a spill onsite, they can quickly locate the downstream chamber leading off the site and take immediate action, such as bunging off the pipe to prevent contamination or pollution. From there, a tanker can remove the waste liquid, and we can clean the lines to restore normal function.

Why Routine Drainage Maintenance Matters

Regular maintenance, including cleaning and inspections, is the best way to ensure your drainage network operates efficiently year-round. Blockages and hydraulic inadequacies don’t always cause immediate problems, but when heavy rain hits, these hidden issues can quickly escalate into major disruptions.
