Rising Damp Due To Broken Gully

How We Fixed a Customer’s Rising Damp Problem

We recently received a call from a customer who was experiencing rising damp in their home. The customer had noticed that some of the walls in their home were starting to get damp and mouldy, and they were worried about the health and safety of their family.

We arrived at the customer’s home to investigate the problem. After a thorough inspection, we determined that the rising damp was being caused by a defective gully. The gully was percolating into the ground and therefore saturating the area.

We took the following steps to fix the problem:

  1. We carried out a small excavation around the gully.
  2. We used CCTV to inspect the drain and confirm that there were no further defects.
  3. We installed a new KWG (kick-up gully).

Once the new gully was installed, the rising damp problem was solved. The customer was very happy with our work, and they were grateful that we were able to resolve their problem quickly and efficiently.

What is Rising Damp?

Rising damp is a type of dampness that occurs when water seeps up through the ground and into the walls of a building. This can happen if the ground is too wet, or if there is a problem with the building’s drainage system. Rising damp can cause a number of problems, including:

  • Mould and mildew growth
  • Peeling paint
  • Damage to furniture and belongings
  • Health problems, such as asthma and allergies

How to Prevent Rising Damp

There are a number of things you can do to prevent rising damp, including:

  • Make sure that the ground around your home is well-drained.
  • Install a damp-proof course (DPC) in your home. A DPC is a barrier that prevents water from seeping up through the ground.
  • Keep your gutters and downspouts clean and free of debris.
  • Check your home’s drainage system regularly for leaks.
